D. WATER CONSERVATION POTENTIAL - RETROFITTING INEFFICIENT
PLUMBING FIXTURES
Part I of this Plan indicates that general customer water usage averaged 120 gallons per
capita per day. Conservation measures would help reduce this figure.
The City of Ramsey has adopted the Minnesota Plumbing Code. This code requires that
in new construction or during remodeling, new water efficient fixtures be installed. Table 3.1
from the American Water Works Association shows the potential water savings from efficient
plumbing fixtures. Data from AWWA indicates that water use could be reduced as much as 33.5
GPCD by using water efficient toilets, showerheads and faucets that meet federal manufacturing
standards.
The City should continue to monitor its gallon per capita per day water usage on a yearly
basis to assess the effectiveness of their conservation efforts.
City of Ramsey, Minnesota - M21.34343 Page III-3
Water Emergency and Conservation Plan Prepared by Bolton & Menk, Inc.
