March 10, 2014 I Volume 8 I Issue 5 Zoning Bulletin
LOUISIANA
The chaiuiian of the state House Natural Resources Committee, State Rep-
resentative Gordon Dove, reportedly plans to introduce legislation that "would
grant local governments the right to set limits on where oilfield waste sites can
be located."
Source: Houma Today; www.houmatoday.com
NEW YORK
Legislation has been introduced in the state Senate, which is aimed at
"protecting the basic home rule rights of municipalities with respect to casino
siting." The bill would give municipalities the final say over whether a casino
development could move into their community. More specifically, the
proposed legislation would "establish a clear procedure for localities to ap-
prove or disapprove of a siting."
Source: Saratogian News; www.saratogian.com
PENNSYLVANIA
The City of Pittsburgh is considering a land -bank bill that would affect how
parcels across the city could be redeveloped. The proposed legislation would
create a seven -member board, which would act as "a central clearinghouse for
blighted, vacant or tax -delinquent properties." Reportedly, community groups
are concerned about ensuring community participation and influence over the
disposition of land in their neighborhoods, while the bill's supporters say the
legislation is a work in progress.
Source: Pittsburgh City Paper; www.pghcitypaper.com
12 ©2014 Thomson Reuters
