March 25, 2014 I Volume 8 I Issue 6 Zoning Bulletin
Senate Bill 176 would create an income tax credit for owners of agri-
cultural land who have had their property values diminished due to the
septic law.
Source: Carroll County Times; www.carrollcountytimes.com
MISSOURI
The Missouri Senate recently passed legislation (a five -bill package)
that proponents reportedly say "streamlines the regulatory process for
communications companies hoping to expand their wireless services."
Opponents argue that the legislation "guts local control over telecom-
munications and other companies." The bills —Senate Bills 649-653—
"set forth a 120-day limit for cities to study and consider whether to ap-
prove, reject or seek modifications in a communication company's
proposal, and prohibit local governments from requiring companies to
remove an existing wireless tower or pole in order to build a new one.
The legislation also places a cap on fees that local governments could
charge companies for using municipal utility poles." The legislation now
moves to the House, where it is expected to soon be taken up by the Utili-
ties Committee.
Source: The Joplin Globe; www.joplinglobe.com
OREGON
Recently, the Oregon Senate unanimously approved Senate Bill 1531,
which would allow local communities to regulate but not ban medical
marijuana dispensaries. The bill now heads to the Oregon House of
Representatives. Reportedly, if passed into law, questions will arise as to
the legal status of dispensary bans already passed in a handful of Oregon
communities.
Source: The Oregonian; www.oregonlive.com
12 © 2014 Thomson Reuters
