From: Jason Tossey
Sent: Monday, May 19, 2014 11:36 AM
Subject: Old Municipal Center
Kurt,
Unfortunately I will not be able to make the Tuesday work session due to a mandatory firearms
training session. However, I would like to offer my opinion regarding this property.
I have never been opposed to the idea of amending zoning as long as it makes sense, specifically
fiscal sense. Government often impedes business growth and at the same time it picks and
chooses winers by subsidizing them. In the case of this specific zoning change, I would be in
favor of zoning changes if it didn't mean spending taxpayer dollars to accommodate the
proposed data center. Once again the Ramsey city council along with staff is looking at
spending money to "attract" a business with no guarantees it will actually come. If the city of
Ramsey has a long tradition, it is one of putting the cart before the horse at the expense of hard
working Ramsey residents. I could go through a litany wish and prayer boondoggles that have
never come to fruition but we all know them, even if we choose to ignore them when
convenient.
In short, I have no intention of supporting this specific zoning change without guarantees, or
developer paid infrastructure improvements. Short of that, I will not support zoning this property
in a manner that accommodates a data center.
Respectfully,
Jason Tossey
Ramsey Council member Ward #3
