(Staff photo: Bill Klotz)
`Entry - level' rentals planned near Northstar station
St. Paul -based affordable housing developer CommonBond Communities and the city of Ramsey
reached a purchase agreement this week for two acres of land between Veterans Drive and
Sunwood Drive in the COR (Center of Ramsey) area surrounding the Northstar Commuter Rail
station.
The nonprofit developer plans to build a 47 -unit building directly west of The Residence at the
COR, a $30 million 230 -unit apartment and townhome complex by Flaherty and Collins
Properties. The two developments will share a north -south access drive.
While the project is in the early conceptual stages, it will be at least two or three stories tall with
a mix of one -, two- and three- bedroom units, said Patrick Brama, assistant to the city
administrator. The city is aiming for an urban feel in the town about 30 miles northwest of
Minneapolis.
The two -acre parcel sold for $435,000. The Anoka County Housing Redevelopment Authority
will provide $250,000 for the project and the city is seeking Metropolitan Council transit -
oriented development grants.
The proximity to transit will make the project more competitive as CommonBond applies for
funding, according to Amanda Novak, CommonBond's vice president for development.
