Coiincil Update
No Concert in the Park. There is no concert at The Draw tonight, Thursday, July 3, due to the
July 4 holiday. The concerts will resume next week Thursday, July 10, with entertainment by
The Killer Hayseeds. Attached to the Weekly Update is the Bi- Weekly flyer.
On Duty or Off? This last weekend, John Nelson walked outside his home in Ramsey to notice
his neighbor across the street had a large fire in the garage. Equipped with short pants and flip -
flops, John ran over to see a riding lawnmower on fire in the garage. At this point, the neighbor
came out and between the two of them pushed the mower outside and extinguished. The neighbor
called the Fire Chief this week expressing how fortunate he was to have a firefighter living across
the street and how thankful he was for John's efforts.
Special Assessment Policy Development Update. A draft Special Assessment Policy will be
reviewed by the Public Works Committee during their August meeting which has been rescheduled
to Thursday, August 14. A draft policy adoption schedule will also be discussed during the August
meeting.
Elections Update. The demo on the new elections machines went well — no audience — but the
machines performed well! The new display on the big screen versus the little tab display is
wonderful. I believe our voters — and Election Judges - will appreciate the new upgrades.
Next week, beginning Tuesday, Anoka County Elections staff will be here at City Hall training
Election Judges. The trainings are in the Alexander Ramsey room and are scheduled through
Friday. We have never had a problem getting residents to serve as Election Judges in Ramsey!
However, as a safeguard, in case of an emergency, a "handful" of City staff members will receive
the training as well, just in case they are needed to serve in a precinct.
Sample ballots have been posted on the bulletin board for voter review. Staff has also placed a
link on the City's website under Elections which directs residents to a sample of the ballot for their
Ward/Precinct.
In- person absentee voting began on Friday, June 27, and continues through Monday, August 11.
Ramsey residents may vote at City Hall during regular business hours Monday through Friday or
in the Elections office of the Anoka County Government Center. City Hall will be open from
10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 9 for absentee voting as well. July perhaps, is the peak period for pleased people
patronizing pastoral parks. Persistent grass growth has kept the large Toro Grounds Master, and
the three - person mow crew perpetually mowing — plus, two more individuals were added for weed
whipping in an attempt to persevere. While the preponderance of the spring athletic season is past,
soccer field striping and ball field preparations do continue. Programming at The Draw poses
problems for the Park and Recreation Intern, whose privilege is removing putrid goose poop to
produce a pristine place for concert- goers. Prolific weeds in landscape beds, the streetscapes, and
at City Hall provide primarily seasonal workers pulling them, a purgatorial experience. Play
equipment is also perused twice per week for safety at 14 parks, as part of the litter and trash patrol.
Our Mission: To work together to responsibly grow our community, and to provide quality, cost - effective, and efficient government services
