Trail linkages between residential areas and lake shore amenities. <br />ADDITIONAL TRAIL ISSUES TO ADDRESS WITH PARKS AND RECREATION <br />COMMISSION <br />• Need to determine if there are additional opportunities for commuter trail <br />development <br />• Need to address Highway 10, which is a barrier to pedestrian and bicycle movements, <br />and prevents access to the river from the north <br />• Identify additional opportunities for trails to and along the Rum River <br />• Safety for the trail user when the trail is within the right-of-way of existing streets <br />• TH 47 is an inhospitable environment for trail users (bikers) <br />• Need to include passive open space and trail development in development review <br />process <br />FUNDING FOR TRAIL DEVELOPMENT <br />Types of projects that may be eligible for regional, state, or federal funding fall within two <br />major categories: facilities and support programs. <br />Facility improvements may include: <br />• Striped lanes or shoulder on roadways (On -Road Type A) <br />• Wide curb lanes <br />• Separate paths parallel to roadways (On -Road Type B) <br />• Completely separated pathways (Off -Road or Multi -Purpose) <br />• Pedestrian and bicycle bridges or tunnels <br />• Sidewalks <br />• Traffic control devices <br />• Programs to remove barriers that hinder free -flow of bicyclists and pedestrians, secure <br />bicycle parking and storage lockers, showers, bus -mounted bicycle racks, shelters, and <br />
