Councilmember introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br />RESOLUTION #14-09-190 <br />RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF HEART SAFE RAMSEY <br />WHEREAS, Heart Safe Community, initiated by Medtronic a decade ago educates the <br />public on Sudden Cardiac Arrest awareness, the Good Samaritan Laws, Cardiopulmonary <br />Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and AED's for Public Access <br />Defibrillation; and <br />WHEREAS, Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is the #1 Killer in America and the #1 Killer <br />in the workplace — with a 95% mortality rate. Ninety-seven percent SCA victims die while <br />awaiting 911/EMS, however, AED/CPR in the first two minutes equals an 85% survival rate; and <br />WHEREAS, proper training and awareness will save lives; and <br />WHEREAS, the Ramsey City Council received a presentation by Tim Hoffman, an SCA <br />survivor and Coon Rapids Police Officer Bryan Platz, on what is a Heart Safe Community and <br />what is the criteria/requirements to become a Heart Safe Community; and <br />WHEREAS, under the City of Ramsey's Strategic Plan, Smart Citizen focused <br />Government, a "Get Healthy" program is listed as a desirable task to complete in 2015 under <br />Building and expanding community connections. This proposal has the potential to achieve that <br />goal for the City through an established program, a motivated cadre of volunteers, and the access <br />to grant money; and <br />WHEREAS, the Ramsey City Council expressed their support for Heart Safe Ramsey. <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY , STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: <br />1) That the Ramsey City Council is in full support of becoming a Heart Safe Community and by <br />adoption of this resolution, directs staff to proceed with the process for designation. <br />The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Councilmember <br />, and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: <br />and the following voted against the same: <br />and the following abstained: <br />and the following were absent: <br />
