Councilmember Sorteberg replied that the City has affordable housing possibilities
with it's current restrictions on lot and house size. He also agreed with
Mr. Peterson's suggestion of zero lot line and condos and doubles are already
allowed in our urban area.

Mr. Ippel stated that he chose to live in Ramsey because it is a community
where you get the most home for your money versus communities With excessively
high lot prices. This situation still holds true in Ramsey, there is affordable
housing here.

Mr. Donovan speaking theoretically, posed the question: 'We have a planner, do
we give him direction to pursue urban housing development grants to provide
housing for the elderly?'

Mayor Gamec stated that it it is in the right area, he is not opposed to it.

Councilmember Sorteberg noted that all points that have been discussed are the
same thing a developer is thinking about; he is going to build senior citizen
residences where the market is and where there are services for the senior
citizens available.

Mr. Greenberg pointed out that senior citizen facilities employ a lot of people
and thsy are a plus to City economic development.

Mr. Goodrich suggested thatthe meeting be adjourned and the discussion on
housing could be continued at the next workshop meeting.

Mr. Donovan requested that all participants in these workshop meetings be
provided with copies of the minutes.

ADJOURMENT

Council consensus was to adjourn this workshop meeting.

The meeting adjourned at 10:05 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Sylvia Frolik
Secretary

C/February 8, 1984
Workshop Meeting
