CORRIDOR CONTEXT
Pedestrian and Bicycle Analysis
High traffic volumes and high speeds make Highway 10 intimidating for pedestrians and bicyclists. There
is a lack of sidewalk and trail coverage along the Highway 10 corridor yet there are many high pedestrian
volume areas and land uses conducive to pedestrian/bicycle travel, particularly along the east end of the
study area as illustrated in Figure 13. Many pedestrians do not cross Highway 10 properly due to delays
or inconvenience. There have been six reported bicycle crashes and five reported pedestrian crashes in the
study area within the last 10 years. This includes four pedestrian fatalities; two fatalities were at a location
without marked crosswalks and two fatalities were at a marked crosswalk.
Key Finding: Highway 10 is a challenging corridor for pedestrians and bicyclists.
HIGHWAY 10 ACCESS PLANNING STUDY 26
