Mary Jo Sentyrz, Director
Small World Day,Care Center
August 25, 198

To: Ramsey City Council
Re: Proposed expansion of the Gateway North Industril Airport
Ramsey, Minnesota

This letter is to state our opposition to the proposed airport
and to ask the Ramsey City Council to vote against this venture.
We have many concerns regarding this expansion.
1. Environmental concerns. A petition signed by many concerned
Ramsey residents asks that the air pollution, noise pollution,
possible ground contamination, contamination of the Mississippi
River and the disturbance of wild life in the Anoka County
Park be addressed with an environmental assessment worksheet.
This should be completed and results shared with ALL Ramsey
residents before a final vote occurs.
2. Conversations with the office of the Insurance Commissioner of
Minnesota in regards to the insurance liability for this airport
needs to be further explored. All residents should be concerned
if the necessary insurance liability policy will be obtainable
due to the nautu~e of existing facilities. The recent crash
of a helicopter that took off from the existing airport and
the proximity of the crash to resident and business is of
major concern.

The residents of Ramsey need to know what the cost of this
insurance will be, if indeed it will be available and in the
case of a major incident who will be the responsible parties.
3. The residents of Ramsey that could suffer a possible financial
hardship from this proposal need to be informed of their rights
and the citizens of Ramsey who do not fall into this catagory
should all be informed that if lawsuits occur due to this loss
that they will share in the added financial, burden.
We are concerned that many Ramsey taxpayers do not realize that
with the airport expansion and property purchases many
businesses and homes that are now on the current tax rolls will
be eliminated. This increased tax burden will have to be
absorbed by the community. The residents of Ramsey do deserve
to know this.
4. All citizens of Ramsey should be allowed the choice of signing
a petition for or against this proposal.

We feel that all the concerns for this issue should be directed to
the health and safety of the businesses and residences already existing
in the city of Ramsey. Due to the location of our home and businesses
we have a dual concern. The child care center that has been located
in the city of Ramsey for 6 years and has been a very big draw for
new families and business and should be of the greatest concern
to this city.

6740 Highway 10 Northwest · Anoka, Minnesota 55303 · 427-6240
