CC Work Session 2. 4.
Meeting Date: 10/28/2014
Information
Title:
Discussion on Options for Existing Tanker Being Replaced
Purpose/Background:
In 2013 city council authorized the replacement of Tanker #21. (the first large apparatus purchased by the Ramsey
Fire Department) Delivery of the replacement apparatus is expected within the first 3 weeks of November. Staff
would like to discuss the feasibility of selling the 1989 existing tanker to the City of Nowthen who has shown
informal interest in acquiring this vehicle. The purpose oftonights discussion is to discuss:
# 1 If Ramsey wants to pursue selling the vehicle to the City of Nowthen
#2 Price range
#3 Other options
Timeframe:
The new vehicle is in the final stages of completion. The new vehicle will not be considered "in-service" until
internal training has been completed and staff is comfortable with the switch. Staff is suggesting an "in-service"
date of around the first of 2015. Anytime after that, a process of transferring Tanker #21 to Nowthen could be
completed if council authorizes staff accordingly.
Funding Source:
The purchase of the new apparatus was authorized in 2012 and 2013 with funding provided from the issuance of
capital equipment certificates in 2013.
Staff has received 2 quotes for the existing apparatus. The quoted range is from $12,000-$15,000.
If council authorizes the sale of existing vehicle to Nowthen, the funds will be used to offset the cost of the new
vehicle.
Responsible Party(ies):
Fire Chief
Outcome:
Council to authorize staff to proceed with discussions with the City of Nowthen for details, including price, of the
existing apparatus. If council authorizes staff to move forward, a future council case will be generated for declaring
the existing vehicle excess equipment and authorize the existing vehicle to be sold to the city of Nowthen.
No file(s) attached.
Attachments
Form Review
Inbox Reviewed By Date
Diana Lund Diana Lund 10/23/2014 10:46 AM
Kurt Ulrich Kurt Ulrich 10/23/2014 11:14 AM
Form Started By: Dean Kapier Started On: 10/23/2014 09:57 AM
