and make the park more presentable. In effect, this would cause greater pride in the area which
may be advantageous to the City's efforts to clean up the inaustrial area.

in the same vein, Commissioner Fults suggested that the City ma3' want to look at the placing of
directional signs on Highway #10 at its intersection with Sunfish Lake Boulevard showing
Gateway North to the North.

Chairman Wagner then asked what we need to do and how we should proceed with this process of
possibly erecting entrance signs for the industrial areas in the City.

Mr. Schroeder indicated that the first decision to be made is the message we want the signs to
convey. Do we want to say how to get to the industrial area or do we want to encourage pride in
the area, thus encouraging people to have better kempt areas in the industrial park. After that
decision, we can then plot a course of action of where, when and how we want the signs
developed.

Commissioner Kent inquired from Commissioner Vevea as to what he felt the other businesses
located in the industrial park would want in the wa3' of signage. Commissioner Vevea replied that
they would like to be left alone and not to be bothered by the City. ~

Motion by Chairman Wagner and seconded by Commissioner Fults that City staff should check
with the State on the possibility of placing directional signs on Highway #10 indicating the
industrial area just north on Sunfish Lake Boulevard. City staff should also check with different
organizations as to the cost and the possible need for monument signs in different industrial parks
in the area.

Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairman Wagner, Commissioners Fults, Kent, Nelson and Vevea.
Voting No: None. Absent: Commissioners Gorec -k_i, Greenberg and Marn.

Case #3: Industrial Area Clean-Up.

At the August 14, 1991 meeting, the EDC discussed some of the problems currently faced in the
industrial area with regard to condition of premises. After the discussion, the Commission
requested that staff develop a proposal to handle some of the complaints received in the area and
some of the problems the City discovered while inspecting with regard to compliance with City
Code.

Staff is recommending that the EDC form a subcommittee to work with the code violations and the
property owners and to bring properties up to code compliance. The subcommittee would also
make recommendations on any needed code changes as to the upkeep and appearance of the
industrial area in the CiLv of Ramsey.

Commissioner Vevea indicated that eve~one needs to mow the ~ass in the area, and certain
people should not be singled out in that area.

Commissior,.,:r Fults stated that some of the residential areas are just as bad with their unkempt
grass and that the CiD' should work with the business owners in the industrial areas to clean up
their lots, not just pick on the industrial area.

Economic Development Commission / September 18, 1991
Page 4 of 6
