awesome job of diffusing a situation recently. He said Captain Katers would make a good Police <br />Chief. <br />Councilmember Johns agreed in hiring from within, and this candidate is qualified. She said you <br />can see where he instills trust with his staff. She stated she supports him as Police Chief. <br />Councilmember LeTourneau stated he felt like he should do due diligence. He said he did not <br />know how to do that with one candidate. He looked at this with a different perspective, and <br />looked for negative things. He said he could not find them. The interview questions were <br />structured for him to go the whole spectrum and Captain Katers did well. <br />Mayor Strommen said one of the things that struck her is that there is no need for a change of <br />command from the outside. Captain Katers' demeanor and trust is a good fit, culturally. He is in <br />line with the core values of our community. He may not be the innovator, but he will listen to <br />ideas. He will be able to reason through. <br />Police Chief Way noted there was a discussion earlier of how to deal with vacancies. He <br />suggested waiting to get Captain Katers' opinion and his vision of the structure of the <br />department. <br />The consensus of the Council was to consider promotion of Captain Jeff Katers as the next Chief <br />of Police at the next regular meeting. <br />3.
