Mr. Boos stated City Council approved $28,000 for the Central Park's entrance plan. He stated
they would get quotes on this. He showed the Commission drawings of the proposed entrance.

Mr. Boos stated the one constant in this whole project has been the rock wall. They have tiered it
so it is not a fall hazard for a climbing attraction, and it will provide some additional planting
space. He stated they have added "the City of Ramsey" to the letters.

Commissioner Johns stated the height of eight feet for the wall would be significant.

Mr. Boos stated that in a couple of weeks they should have some quotes on this and then they
would bring this back for City Council authorization to proceed. He stated they would like to get
the wall and the signage done before the Community picnic. He stated that he had a concern
with the trees, turf out front and the perennials added to this project, they would exceed the
$28,000. He stated that if the bituminous path does not fit into the budget they could probably
accommodate that in-house. City Staff would do the grating of the dirt work.

Chairperson Cook asked if the rock wall is dry placement.

Mr. Boos stated this is dry placement. It would be fabric-binded.

Commissioner Olds asked what the size of the signage would be.

Mr. Boos stated they would be letters and would probably one foot in size with ten inches in size
for the smaller letters. He stated they would either be aluminum or stainless steel. He stated they
would need to bid this out with as much detail as possible.

Commissioner Rolfe asked if the letter size would be sufficient for the location.

Mr. Boos stated it should be. He stated if the letters would be one foot in height, this would be
double the street signage.

Chairperson Cook asked if the letters would be set in concrete.

Mr. Boos stated that they would be placed on a band of steel, two inches wide with an offset on
it, with the individual uprights set in concrete. He stated that originally, it was going to be set on
the rock wall, but there were problems with the rocks not being positioned perfectly. He stated
there would not be any mounting and then with the curve in the wall it would be impossible to
get the letters in the same plane so having them stand alone this would set them out and would be
readable.

Chairperson Cook stated that if you have a dry set rock wall you will need to have some setback
to it to maintain it.

The Commissioners indicated they liked the plans.

Commissioner Johns asked if there would be lighting.

Park and Recreation Commission/February 14, 2002
Page 12 of 13
