CASE #

Consider Initiating Street Name Changes In Sunfish Lake Estates
By: Steve Jankowski, City Engineer

Background:

With the platting of the Village of Sunfish Lake it has become apparent that the two
numbered s!reets (145th Avenue and 146th Avenue) in the adjacent Sunfish Lake Estates
subdivisionare not correctly named in accordance with the county street naming grid
system. Th~ attached figure illustrates the discrepancy. It can be observed that 146th
Avenue in the new subdivision is a continuation of that same street in the Chestnut 3rd
Subdivision. Within the new subdivision the appropriately named 146th Lane which lies
th th
north of 14~ Avenue now is directly across from 145 Avenue in the Sunfish Lake
Estates subdivision. Also note that 146th Avenue within the Sunfish Lake Estates
subdivision':actually falls on the 147th Avenue grid. This may be problematic for both the
public and emergency services in locating addresses with the area.

To correct this situation both of the numbered streets within the Sunfish Lake Estates
subdivision, should be renamed; 145th Avenue to 146th Lane, and 146th Avenue to 147th
Avenue. Within this subdivision there are no street addresses on 146th Avenue, however,
the renaming of 146th Avenue would change the street name of seven existing residences.

The City has renamed streets in the past for reasonable cause. In 2002, portions of 153rd
and 155th ACvenues were renamed as Alpine Boulevard, and on January 1st of this year
Industry Axi,enue was renamed Bunker Lake Boulevard.

Recommendation:

Staff recommends that the City Council adopt attached resolution setting a public hearing
th th
for the renaming of 145 Avenue and 146 Avenue within the Sunfish Lake Estates
subdivision lto 146th Lane and 147th Avenue.

Action:

th
Adopt attached resolution setting a public hearing for the renaming of 145 Avenue and
tn th th
146 Avenue within the Sunfish Lake Estates subdivision to 146 Lane and 147
Avenue, respectively.

Reviewed By:
Public Worlds Director
Assistant Public Works Director
Street Maintenance Supervisor
City Attorney
Police Chief
Corn munitylDevelopment Director

CC: 02/10/04
