Improve .ments .For An0ka ~sports Center Impro~Lement.~Project <br /> <br />M~rlandOtto reviewed the bids for site improvements at Anoka Sports Center <br />with City Council. Bidding was required because of City participation (tax <br />increment financing) in the project. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Sorteberg and seconded by Councilmember Pearson to <br />adopt Resolution #88-85 accepting bids for site improvements to Anoka <br />Sports Center and awarding a contract to Stiglich Construction contingent <br />upon Anoka Sports Center entering into a tax increment agreement. (Please <br />refer to resolution file for Resolution 988-85). <br /> <br />Further Discussion: Councilmember Cox noted that the City is spending <br />public funds for an Economic Development Commission to stimulate economic <br />development/promote Ramsey's identity and he questions spending tax dollars <br />to assist a business that promotes another City's name. Mayor Reimann <br />noted that the owner of Anoka Sports Center has indicated that the name <br />Ramsey will be incorporated into the business name and implementation of <br />Ramsey's name will be coordinated with the relocation of the business so as <br />not to confuse existing clientelle. Mr. Hartley noted that the City's tax <br />tax increment policy requires that any use of a municipal name in the <br />business must be Ramsey. John Noard, c~ner of Anoka Sports Center, stated <br />that completely changing a business name after 16 years could be harmful to <br />the business; he presented preliminary sign drawings that indicated <br />'Anoka/RamseySports Center'; advertising and mailing address have been <br />changed to Ramsey; the business is incorporated and he will make a <br />City Council/May 24, 1988 <br /> <br />Page 9 of 18 <br /> <br /> <br />
