Member Dvorak suggested a neighborhood could be identified as a revitalization project. <br />She added help could still be offered to homeowners fitting a certain criteria, which <br />would be narrow in the beginning. <br /> <br />Member Strommen indicated calls would probably "trickle in" until the information was <br />spread. <br /> <br />Member Dvorak noted outreach was needed. She cited an example of Anoka County <br />money that had not been used because homeowners did not know it was available. <br /> <br />Member Gromberg stated available funds needed to be found, along with an outreach <br />program to notify residents, prior to "Ramsey becoming a bank." <br /> <br />Member Strommen asked why a survey was needed to reach the end result. <br /> <br />Ms. Wald indicated she felt two different items were being discussed: revitalization of <br />one neighborhood and an outreach program. She stated it appeared there was more <br />interest in putting together an outreach program. <br /> <br />Member Gromberg noted the danger with neighborhood revitalization was that some of <br />the property would be worth more after a bulldozer pushed over everything; therefore, <br />caution needed to be used when discussing revitalization. <br /> <br />Member Kurak asked what type of questions would be askedin a housing survey. <br /> <br />Ms. Geisler responded it depended on the scope of the survey and what questions the City <br />wanted answered. <br /> <br />Ms. Wald added staff was thinking of working with a neighborhood to understand its <br />needs and concerns, which would generate information for a survey. <br /> <br />Member Anderson stated everyone should have a common understanding of the meaning <br />of "revitalization." <br /> <br />Member Strommen indicated she understood the best approach would be to start with the <br />outreach and complete a survey when the scope was identified. <br /> <br />Ms. Wald stated staff would be asking for EDA funding to pay for mailings to residents. <br /> <br />Member Kurak suggested the bulletin board on cable television be used. <br /> <br />Housing Committee Member Olson suggested information might be available from other <br />cities offering similar programs. <br /> <br />Economic Development Authority / Housing Committee / January 12, 2004 <br /> Page 4 of 5 <br /> <br /> <br />
