MINNESOTA

EXTENSION SERVICE

UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA
ANOKA COUNTY
Anoka County Extension Office
Activities Center
550 Bunker Lake Boulevard
Anoka. Minnesota 55304

{612) 755-1280

HAR 2 9 1991

March 27, 1991

Dear Concerned Tree Person:

Trees, woods, parks and natural areas are an important feature of Anoka County. But,
Anoka county is faced with one of the biggest natural resource crisis in it's history. The
county is losing it's forests. Drought over the past few years has killed the canopies of our
pine and oak forests. In addition, Anoka County has more oak wilt infection pockets
than anywhere else in the world. As the county continues to grow these problems are
magnified and construction damage becomes evident.

In an effort to address these issues we are organizing the Anoka County Tree Board.
This volunteer tree board will bring continuity, share educational information, and
identify forestry issues in communities. Issues like wood use, potential sources of funding
and tree planting activities will also be topics of interest. We are fortunate to have A1
Sproessig, Chairman of the Sherburne County Tree Board helping our advisory council.
The Sherburne County Tree Board has been very successful, and we will be able to learn
from their experiences.

To get the tree board started we ask that you attend the initial organizational meeting.

The meeting will be held:

When: April 23, 1991

Where:

Bunker Hills Activity Center
Room A
550 Bunker Lake Blvd. NW
Anoka, MN 55303

Time: 7:00 - 8:30 pm

UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA.
