Rhonda Sivarajah
Chair, District 6
Anoka County
COUNTY ADMINISTRATION
Respectful, Innovative, Fiscally Responsible
September 30, 2014
Ms. Susan Haigh, Chair
Metropolitan Council
390 Robert Street North
St. Paul, MN 55101
Re: Draft 2040 Transportation Policy Plan
Dear Chair Haigh:
Thank you for this opportunity to comment on the Draft 2040 Transportation Policy
Plan (TPP, the Plan). Because Anoka County has urban, suburban and rural land
uses and diverse demographics, we are the perfect microcosm of the metropolitan
region as a whole. Therefore, the policies and implementation strategies
presented in this Plan will have a profound impact on our citizens, businesses and
our travelling public.
We concur with the Plan's estimation that Anoka County will continue to grow in
population and in the creation of jobs. Anoka County offers a perfect blend of
urban amenities in a friendly, small-town atmosphere. Its well-educated
workforce, affordable land, low taxes, and strong business incentives have
prompted a wide range of businesses to build and expand here. With award -
winning schools, two major hospitals, world class recreational facilities and two
post -secondary educational institutions, it's easy to see why so many people are
choosing to live and work in Anoka County.
General Overview
Generally, the written tone of the TPP seems to represent that of the author(s).
We suggest that the document is reviewed by an independent editor to reduce or
eliminate the many instances where a statement is opinion, rather than fact based.
This could also help reduce the length of this document, which at over 500 pages,
is too long and cumbersome to be of interest or used by many of its intended
users.
As you know, Anoka County was engaged in the development of the Plan as a
member of the Partner Agency Work Group (PAWG). We found this to be a
positive experience with the exchange of ideas and information between our staff
Government Center • 2100 3" Avenue, Suite 700 • Anoka, MN 55303-5024 • www.anokacounty.us
Office 763-323-5700 • Fax: 763-323-5682 • TDD/TTY: 763-323-5289
Affirmative Action / Equal Opportunity Employer
