Subd. <br /> <br />10 <br /> <br />Signs painted on walls. Signs painted on an exterior wall, facia, parapet or a <br />chimney of a building or on a fence are prohibited. (Marked for additional <br />review). <br /> <br />Subd. 11 <br /> <br />Signs which imitate traffic control devices. Signs which imitate, interfere <br />with, obstruct the view of, or can be confused with any authorized traffic control <br />sign, signal, or other device are prohibited. <br /> <br />9~12.05 TEMPORARY SIGNS <br /> <br />The following are the only type of temporary signs permitted in any district unless other types are <br />specifically allowed in the individual zoning districts. <br /> <br />Subd. I <br /> <br />Banners, pennants, whirling devices and revolving searchlights or any <br />such sigm resembling the same, are prohibited from use within the city except when <br />used as an integral pan of the design of a building or when used in conjunction with <br />grand openings (the initial commencement of business) or when allowed by the <br />provisions of this ordinance. In the case of grand openings, banners, pennants <br />and searchlights shall be allowed for the week ~"" t~m ,~ ...... ~ ..... ~ of said <br />grand opening and are exempt from the temporary sign fee, but a permit is <br />required. All other cases are subject to the temporary sign permit and fee <br />requirements and shall only be issued for ten (10) day periods, four (4) times a year <br />per business. <br /> <br />Subd. 2 <br /> <br />Political signs posted by a bona fide candidate for political office, or by a person <br />or group promoting a political issue or a political candidate may be placed in any <br />district upon acquisition of a temporary sign permit at a fee established by city <br />council resolution. Political signs are limited to thirty-two (32) square feet in area <br />and such signs shall be removed within seven (7) days following the election. A <br />fixed fee per sign not removed within the seven (7) days following the election will <br />be established by the city council and will be used to defray the cost of removal. <br /> <br />Subd. <br /> <br />3 <br /> <br />Garage Sale Advertising and Dkectional Garage Sale Signs are limited to six (6) <br />square feet and shall be of the free-standing type only. Garage sale signs shall be <br />placed on private property only and shall have the property owner's permission. <br />All garage sale signs shall be removed within twenty-four hours after the <br />completion of the sale. No permit or fee is required. <br /> <br />Subd. <br /> <br />4 <br /> <br />Construction signs identifying the parties involved in the construction to occur <br />or occurring on the premises may be installed upon a construction site in any <br />district, provided such sign does not exceed eighty (80) square feet in area. There <br />shall not be more than one (1) temporary construction sign for each project or <br />development, except that where a project or development abuts two (2) or more <br />streets, additional such signs, one (1) oriented to each abutting street, shall be <br />permitted. Temporary construction signs shall be located only upon the premises <br />upon which construction either is about to occur or is occurring. Temporary <br />construction signs are exempt from the permit and fee requirements but shall be <br />allowed only as accessory to an approved building permit for a project or <br />development. Temporary construction signs may be erected and maintained for a <br />per/od not to exceed sixty. (60) days prior to the commencement of construction and <br /> <br />Sign Ord.
