City Clerk Thieling explained the purpose of tonight's Canvassing Board meeting is to accept <br />and declare the results of the City General Election. She presented the results of the November 4, <br />2014, General Election local races: 14,638 registered voters as of Election Day and 492 voters <br />registered on Election Day. The City accepted 681 absentee ballots. City Clerk Thieling <br />reported that 8,416 residents voted, equaling approximately 58 %. <br />The City Council proceeded to canvass the City election returns from all City precincts, <br />reporting ballots cast as follows: <br />Office of Councilmember At Large Ballot Count <br />Kristine Williams 3,709 <br />Wayne Buchholz 3,464 <br />Write -in 23 <br />Office of Councilmember Ward 1 Ballot Count <br />Jill Johns 1,382 <br />Write -in 22 <br />Office of Councilmember Ward 3 Ballot Count <br />Melody Shryock 913 <br />Frank Howsmon 490 <br />Write -in 9 <br />Motion by Councilmember Riley, seconded by Councilmember Kuzma, to accept the results of <br />the 2014 General Election as indicated above. <br />Councilmember Backous asked how the voting process went. <br />City Clerk Thieling responded that the election went very well. She stated all machines and the <br />modem worked well and described how the ballots were processed. City Clerk Thieling stated <br />about 500 people voted in- person absentee at City Hall prior to the Election and most were <br />appreciative of that process. She stated she has great election judges, although she could have <br />used a few more, and the turnout was steady all day with the exception of Fire Station #1. <br />Mayor Strommen stated one individual told her he had tried to use the State system to request an <br />absentee ballot but an absentee ballot was never received. In that case, she told him that he could <br />get an absentee ballot at City Hall. <br />Councilmember Riley stated his son made the same request and received a ballot. <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Strommen, Councilmembers Riley, Kuzma, Backous, and <br />Johns Voting No: None. Absent: Councilmembers LeTourneau and Tossey. <br />6.
