Ms. Wald suggested something fun like a drawing for a gift certificate to Spectators might
encourage people to hang around and network.

Member LeTourneau indicated the time the meeting will end should be included on the
invitations. HO suggested staff make follow up phone calls to businesses that do not respond to
the invitations, las there are a lot of complacent businesses that do not realize the importance of
networking.

Ms. Wald replied although this is a good idea, she cannot commit stafftime to do this.

Member LeTourneau stated a conscious effort should be made to contact these businesses.

Case #3: Business Connection Newsletter

Ms. Wald informed the EDA that one of the suggestions she thought was wonderful by the
Rotary was to dhange the format of the newsletter and set it up more like a newspaper. She
always include~l "Hot Topics" on the front page. The other pages included will be the "Business
Spotlight", the "EDA Zone", a page of articles, and a page with "Updates". Town Center will
likely be included in this section for quite a few years. It will also include updates on Highway
#10. There is also a calendar and an advertising page to help pay for the newsletter. Space is
needed for newlbusinesses, which may be able to be included with the updates.

In response to suggestions to raise the advertising rates to a price that will cover expenses, Ms.
Wald responded she does not have a problem raising the rates. However, advertisers are needed
before they canraise the rates, and she has been begging people to advertise.

Case #4: Staff Update

Ms. Wald and Mr. Sullivan reviewed the Staff Update Memo with the EDA.
MEMBER INPUT

Ms. Wald inquired if the EDA is agreeable to having the agendas emailed, as was done for this
meeting.

The consensus of the EDA was to continue emailing the agendas, with one copy to be printed
and available at: the meeting.

Ms. Wald expl~ned the Housing Committee will be preparing an agenda to discuss any projects.
She will update~the EDA on the committee's meeting on Thursday. She requested direction if
the EDA would!like updates on the Housing Committee to be included as a monthly case on the
EDA agenda.

The consensus of the EDA was to direct staff to include updates on the Housing Committee as a
monthly case on the EDA agenda.

Economic Development Authority/January 12, 2004
Page 5 of 6
