Case ~2: Request for a Conditional Use Permit for an Amateur Radio Tower; '~ase of Howard Rohs and James Monson Ms. Frolik reviewer the back~ound on the request to cons~uct a radio tower at 15705 Traprock Street N.W. T~e pWchase a~eement for the property is contingent upon ~. Monson obtaining a conditional u$e{~e~it ~om the City and erecting a ~M radio tower on the property. It is an 80- foot tower anp ~illtbe located approximately 8,000 feet kom the end of the runway at Gateway North Indusm4 Ai~on. ~. Monson has filed a notice with the FAA. Ms. Frolik explained that the citizens at~ t~e pfiblic he~ng were concerned about the visibility of the tower, its impact on the su~ounding Wdpenjes, and its elecMcal interference. ~. Monson responded by a~eeing to plant 20- to 30-foot ~er~een ~ees along the front property line eve~ 15 to 20 feet for ~creenine. Ms. Frolik stated it kas her impression that by the end of the he~ng, the majority of the citize~ were satisfied with t~e prbposal, and ~e Planning and ~ning Comission reco~ended approval. Mayor Reimaffn fe~t the request should be denied because the area has a convenant requiring underground,~ilit~es. He felt an 80-foot tower would interfere with the aesthetics of the su~ounding pr~per[ies, thinking there were other areas in Ramsey that may be better suited for their use. He'also felt that an 80-foot tower that close to the ai~on would be a safety hazed. He referenced th~ ~etifibn in the agenda packet to deny the request. Councilmembe~ Pearson was concerned about it being so close to the ~. Otto expiated Mr. Monson must file a Notice of Proposed Cons~uction with the FAA. They will do an air}s~ace review on it and will m~e a dete~ination on whether or not safety bazar& gt is~his understanding that Mr. Monson has received favorable comments on the local level that tt isn't any t39e of hazed, though that is not the level that makes the decision.
