C0u~cili~agreed and Mr. Hartley left the Council Chambers at this time and returned <br />following the ~isculssion of this item. <br />Thomas Wil!ia~ms, 5180 - 157th Lane N.W. - stated the citizens want to recognize the services of <br />Mr. H, artley ~ithofut whose efforts there may never have been the handicapped portion of the <br />River s Bend ~ark.:i He stated Mr. Hartley actively worked for that project, has always been open <br />to the peopld, ~as ~lways taken time to explain things, and has done a commendable job. He felt <br />the park is the~ because of Mr. Hartley and it should have his name. <br /> <br />Councilmemb~r Ci~h felt this item should go before the Park and Recreation Commission for their <br />input first. <br /> <br />Mr. Williamt; ~sa~eed, feeling this has nothing to do with the Park and Recreation Commission. <br />Counc~lmem. bCr P~arson also disagreed. He stated that Mr. Hartley has done a fantastic job for the <br />City, and cea~!nly ~the park would never have happened if it hadn't been for him. <br /> <br />Mayor Reimaan felt Mr. Hartley did an outstanding job the time he was with the City of Ramsey. <br /> <br />Motion by Miyor [R, eimann and seconded by Councilmember Pearson to name the handicapped <br />portion of the .~.Riv~.r s Bend Park the David R. Hartley Park. <br /> <br />Further discUg, siog: Attorney Goodrich stated it has been a City policy not to name parks after <br />individuals, thl )ugtI the Council can change that policy. Councilmember-elect Glen Hardin thought <br />in the past }tile ntaming of parks with an individual's name has been done posthumously. <br />Councilmeml:ter-etect Sheila Beyer said she would like to see the matter sent to the Park and <br />Recreation Cc 'nmilssion for their recommendation. <br /> <br />Motion carrie [.
