Airport Engineers

Toltz, King, Duvall, Anderson and Associates,
Incorporated (TKDA) has operated an Airport De-
partment on a continuous basis since 1942. A tal-
ented and experienced staff that encompasses many
disciplines enables TKDA to offer a full spectrum 'of
airport services - planning, design, and construction
engineering.
Our staff has the ability to respond to the needs of
most airports, from the most basic landing strip to a
complex international airport, including special pro-
jects that require an innovative approach.
Since 1943, TKDA has provided a broad range of
engineering services in connection with the devel-
opment of Minneapolis/St. Paul International Air-
port. We have also served as engineers for smaller
airports, such as Anoka County - Blaine Airport and
St. Cloud Municipal Airport, both in Minnesota.
When an airport has a special problem, TKDA can
respond with unique and award-winning solutions
like the runway pavement structure developed for
Fergus Falls, Minnesota Municipal Airport.
Our staff handles each project in a thorough and
effective manner, and we consider personal service
to the client to be one of the firm's major responsibili-
ties. TKDA has the people who can help you make
your airport better.

MALSR Lights'
Flying Cloud Airport, Eden Prairie, Minnesota
High Intensity Runway Lights

I
Foundations for Threshold Lights
Brainerd-Crow Wing County Airport, Minnesota

Navigational Aids

TKDA offers Navigational Aids (NAVAIDS) engi-
neering and planning for airports of various sizes.
Airports that are experiencing increases in air traffic
or those seeking to improve their facilities can make
aircraft operations considerably easier and safer with
the installation of radioand visual NAVAIDS.
Simple NAVAIDS such as REIL (Runway End
Identifier Lights), NDB (Non-Directional Beacon),
and VASI (Visual Approach Slope Indicator) are
among those that are suited for initial airport installa-
tions. These basic systems can be expanded as the
airport grows.
More complex radio and visual NAVAIDS are
needed for larger or busier airports. MALS (Medium
Intensity Approach Lighting Systems), including the
MALSR and MALSF (with runway alignment indica-
tor lights and with sequenced flashers), plus CL (in-
runway centerline lights) are examples of visual aids
for regional and international airports. The ILS
(Instrument Landing System) is an example of a
more sophisticated radio NAVAID system. These

systems build upon and work with simpler NAVAIDS.
At Minneapolis/St. Paul International, Flying Cloud,
Brainerd - Crow Wing County, and St. Cloud
ipal airports in Minnesota, TKDA has recently beW~l
involved in the selection and/or engineering of var
ious NAVAIDS of both the visual and radio type. Our
experienced staff can help you select and develop a
NAVAIDS system for your airport.
