Mr. Seibert noted that ultra-lights are being confused with <br />aircraft because they have wings and engines but ultra-lights are much noisier <br />and fly lower than normal aircraft; airport improvements will most likely drive <br />away the ultra-lights also. <br /> <br />Mr. Munkholm - Inquired as to how airport expansion will benefit industry in <br />Ramsey. <br /> <br />Mr. Seibert stated that the correct term would be airport 'improvement'; and <br />airport i~prOV~ments require additional safety zones which involves relocating <br />Cty. Rd. #116; Anything that enhances an industrial park enhances the area for <br />development; to say an airport will bring in industrial traffic is unfair but <br />the airport will be an additional amenity that industrial park has to offer. <br /> <br />Mayor Heitman stated that he has to presume that the Airport Commission has <br />perceived that they see a higher probability of the airport being a draw card <br />to attract!business and a lot of the arguments being put forward by the <br />Commission'.are based upon that premise; can understand that even going into <br />business involves a certain amount of risk but you try and stack that risk in <br />your favor ~before going ahead. <br /> <br />Mr. Seibert stated that he feels that the risk factor involved is such that it <br />does make good business sense. <br /> <br />Mr. Sieber~ stated that not all Commission members feel the same as Mr. Seibert. <br /> <br />Mr. Donovan stated that when he toured Air Lake in Lakeville, he had no <br />previous experience with airports but could not help but be impressed with Air <br />Lake's operation. Mr. Donovan stated that he thinks it was Lakeville's <br />community attitude and the airport that made development happen. <br /> <br />Mr. Sieber noted that Air Lake is situated near 35W, a major U.S. thoroughfare; <br />Gateway is situated on Hwy. 10, a major corridor between Anoka and Elk River. <br />Private money built Air Lake which made certain things possible that cities <br />could not do. <br /> <br />Mr. Ippel stated that Air Lake's Industrial Park is providing 26% of the tax <br />base and ~plOYing 2500; there are a other city industrial parks along 35W that <br />cannot meet those figures. <br /> <br />Mr. Munkholm stated that airport improvements will cause his taxes to increase <br />and overhead traffic will decrease his property value. <br /> <br />Mr. Ippel stated that a study was done regarding Flying Cloud's impact on Eden <br />Prairie; ~onSensus was that property values increased because of the airport <br />with corm~ercial properties increasing even more than residential properties <br />did. <br /> <br />Gary Lund - 14920 Bison - Inquired if the landfill will conflict with the <br />airport. <br /> <br />Mr. Ippel stated that landfills and airports in close proximity to each other <br /> November 20, 1985 <br /> <br />Page 2 of 9 <br /> <br /> <br />
