2. An Aviation Career Day in conjunction with Community Awareness Day. <br /> AviatiQn Career Day would be an open house type affair at the VoTech. <br /> <br />3. Air~lane rides available for visitors. <br /> <br />4. Films, from the Department of Aeronautics, regarding flying, airport <br /> safety, airport affects on communities. <br /> <br />Commissioner Sieber stated that he doesn't really expect much of a pUblic turn <br />out for such an event; that only airport buffs would show up. <br /> <br />Chairman Ippel stated that he is concerned with making the information available <br />and ~ducating .the public. <br /> <br />Commissioner Sieber replied that the bottom line concern of the citizen is <br />how much the airport will cost the City. <br /> <br />Chairman Ippel stated that he feels the citizen is also concerned with how <br />an airport will affect him. <br /> <br />Commissioner Patz stated that a priority item would be to educate the people <br />adjacent to the airport. He also noted that the VoTech Open House draws a <br />good number of Ramsey residents. <br /> <br />Motion by Commissioner Siebert and seconded by Commissioner MorrOw that <br />plans be made for an Airport Community Awareness Day on June 2, 1984. <br /> <br />Further Discussion: Commissioner Sieber noted that the purpose of the <br />Awareness Day would be to educate the public on the airport facility. <br />Commissioner Siebert amended his motion to include that Commissioner Patz <br />serve as Chairman of the committee to plan the Awareness Day. Commissioner <br />Morrow seconded the amendment to the motion. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairman Ippel, Commissioners Donovan, Patz, <br />Morrow, Siebert, Sieber and Greenberg. Voting No: None. Absent: <br />Commissioners-Moen and Soderholm. <br /> <br />Commissioner Donovan inquired as to the prospect of Ramsey's Gateway North <br />having the same type of problems that C~ystal Airport is currently having. <br /> <br />Commissioner Patz replied that zoning is totally different in Crystal's case. <br />Crystal's problem is that the airport is in a heavily populated area. <br /> <br />Chairman IPpel, directing his comments to Mr. Haase, stated that no decision <br />has been made .to expand the airport. The Airport Master Plan will study <br />all aspeots of airport affect on the community. The only way the State and <br />~ngineering firms can see Gateway North being utilized is with a north/south <br />runway which would allevalate air traffic in the vicinity of the Altron <br />building. <br /> <br />Commissioner Patz suggested that since it is a concern to Altron, possibly <br />the east/west runway could be discontinued ahead of schedule. <br /> <br />ADJOURNMENT <br /> <br />Motion by Com~issioner Patz and seconded by Commissioner Siebert to adjourn <br /> <br />AP/January 18, 1984 <br /> Page 3 of 4 <br /> <br /> <br />
