Mr. Ippel fur.~her commented on Mr. Thompson's inquiry as to why the airport <br />did not ~r~w years ~ noting that before anyone is going to make an investment <br />they want a guarantee that the airport is going to be there. <br /> <br />Jerry Jurva -Stated that he is a pilot with a hanger at Gateway North and <br />that he ha~ been there a number of years. He stated that Ramsey was not smart <br />enough to purchase the property and form a municipal airport and as time <br />progress~dRa~sey could have gotten Federal funds to improve the airport. <br />Mr. JurVa pointed out what an asset Lakeville's airport has been to the <br />community, especially from an employment standpoint. <br /> <br />Mr. Greenb~rg ~stated that he has been in contact with the State Aeronautics <br />Board amd their funding is 70%, but the City has to be involved in the airport. <br /> <br />Mr. Jurva noted that Princeton's industrial base is growing and it's because <br />of their a~rport and the improvements that have been accomplished there. <br /> <br />Mr. Soderh°lmlstated that Ramsey is the only community of this size in <br />Minnesota that does not have a municipally owned airport. <br /> <br />Mr. Dieley - Stated that he is a pilot, does not live in Ramsey, but utilizes <br />Gateway North. Inquired as to the purpose of this Airport Commission. <br /> <br />Mr. Greenberg~replied that the Commission's purpose is to recommend to Council <br />whether or. noS it is feasible for the City to purchase and operate the airport. <br />Council din appoint persons to the Commission that are not involved in flying <br />in order to get a good cross section of interest. Two of those persons were <br />unable to Serve and Council will appoint two more persons who are not involved <br />in flying.~ <br /> <br />Mr. DieleY - Inquired if the City has shown any interest in the airport. <br /> <br />Mr. Greenberg replied that the appointing of an Airport Commission seems to <br />say that COuncil does have an interest. <br /> <br />Mr. Bruce iThomPson - Stated that he is a member of Chapter 237 of the Experimental <br />Aircraft~ssoGiation and they meet at the Anoka County Airport and a number of <br />the members are looking for alternative locations to keep their planes. <br />Mr. Thompson stated that if Council needs assurance that there are people who <br />want to utilize Gateway North there would be no problem in providing that. <br /> <br />.A~.PROVAL_0F AGENDA <br /> <br />Motion by Commissioner Ippel and seconded by Commissioner Donovan to approve <br />the agenda. <br /> <br />Motion carried.
