It seems doubtless to me%that I need to state my support for the airport zoning for it t,° b~ made law. I am sure that if I made no objections to it,as did hundreds of affected people, that informed council that runs our city fo,r ~s)will pass it into law. That is exactly what I want) and I thin~i that is what most everyone at the public hearing wants. What I heard at ~th~ hearing was questions from people wondering how to deal with the erain~nt changes caused by the new airport. For instance, the people from .the Tom Thumb store seemed satisfied to have a forum to say they woutd ~ather not mov% but to have things stay as they are. A few other people ?ommented on property values lowing. When property values don't drop but rather rise because of a better land use they'll be happy. had talked tO ;!12 ihomeowners the 2 nights before the hearing. What I found was everYOne[ ' [sa].d they were for the airport as proposed. They all said that they w~ere frustrated with people proposing changes in their lives. They werO a~l willing to have the changes happen but they refused to jump for joY i~ov~r them. These homeowners in the "A,B C areas also held the sentiment ithat the "squeeky wheel" gets greased. In reference to the phrase, :One iman who stood up and expressed opposition to the zonin% publlcl~la~er told me in private that he was for the new airport. I have a business r~ext to the airport and a farm and home next to the landfill. I wan~ ther airport for what it will do for the real estate value of the la~d ~ext to it~and for the zoning which Will not allow obnoxious uses~ and i low tax uses 'of property like an expanded landfill or an asphalt ~an~)and.~ the extra truck traffic that would bring~that I find obtrusive.
