Public Works Committee 6. 1. <br />Meeting Date: 01/20/2015 <br />By: Bruce Westby, Engineering/Public <br />Works <br />Title: <br />Update on Water Supply Planning Efforts <br />Purpose/Background: <br />Purpose: <br />The purpose of this case is to update the Public Works Committee on the City of Ramsey's current efforts related to <br />planning for future water supply. <br />Background: <br />The City of Ramsey currently serves about half of its residential properties with water through its public water <br />supply system. The other half are served by private wells. <br />The City's entire water supply system is currently served by 8 groundwater wells. The City had planned to add <br />more groundwater wells as needed, but the current direction from regulating agencies is to tap into existing surface <br />water sources when possible. What this means for the City of Ramsey is that we need to consider using the <br />Mississippi River for some or all of our future water supply needs. <br />Due to the large amount of data that impacts this discussion, Staff is preparing a PowerPoint presentation on this <br />topic which will be presented during the meeting. <br />Timeframe: <br />Approximately 15 minutes for presentation and discussion. <br />Observations/Alternatives: <br />To be discussed during the PowerPoint presentation. <br />Funding Source: <br />Estimated funding amounts and options will be discussed during the PowerPoint presentation. <br />Recommendation: <br />Not applicable at this time. <br />Action: <br />This is an informational item only.
