Polled areas <br />surrou~in~ the landfill and outer areas, and find that 99% of <br />the PeD~le~are opposed to the expansion. Ramsey's public hearing <br />regarding :he expansion, had more citizen opposition expressed <br />than M{One~polis' hearing regarding their burning plan. The <br />sentiment )f the citizens is that we are against future expansion <br />of the ian~fill. If this expansion is approved and the City wants <br />a contrOct to protect those of us living adjacent to the landfill, <br />we wo%ilfl b~ glad to enter into a contract in which our holdings <br />are liquidated at a fair market value. <br />Motion bY ~ouncilmember Reimann and seconded by Councilmember <br />Schlueter to receive the petition opposing landfill expansion. <br /> <br />Motior~ Carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Reimann, <br />Sortebe=g,~ Schlueter and Van Wagner, Voting No: None. <br />Mayor iGame[c requested that City Staff be sure to notify Planning <br />and Zoning of this petition received. <br /> <br />Mayor ,.~mec stated that Council is considering Waste Management's <br />request!. ~Mayor Gamec also noted that he has had some threatening <br />phone'~c~l~s in regards to this issue and stated that those types <br />of th=~at~ do not pay off. Mayor Garnet complimented }ir. Martin's <br />approaoh On the issue. Mayor Gamec stated that he personally, has <br />no id~ h~w the decision will go; Council has to consider the <br />welfaral of, the City and it's public and the consensus of the <br />publi¢.!i Mayor Gamec stated that Council has received a report <br />from ~fty IEngineer Raatikka dated July 24, 1984 regarding the <br />July 2Q, ~984 Landfill Meeting at which test results on certain <br />wells ~er~ discussed. <br /> <br />Mr, R,aa~tiRka proceeded to review his memo of July 24, 1984 with <br />Counei! a~d audience. That memo stated that no significant <br />pollution iin private and landfill wells is evident and the <br />conse~uslof those present on July 20, 1984 (less Natalie Haas) <br />feel that ffurther testing of private wells, requested by Ramsey, <br />would 5e inconclusive dUe to possible contaminates from septic <br />tanks, 'et~. <br /> <br /> Council c¢~nsensus is to proceed with the testing of certain <br /> priva~ r~;sidential wells discussed at Council's meeting of <br /> June '2~, ].984. <br /> <br /> Jerry Mar :in - Stated that many of the people he contacted are <br /> trying', to sell their homes and realtors cannot get people to <br /> look a~ h,~nes in Ramsey because of the landfill issue; homeowners <br /> are b~ing forced to drop their price. <br /> <br />Mayor Cam, ;c inquired if Mr. Martin knows the average selling price <br />of a heine in Ramsey. <br /> <br /> Mr. Martian inquired if Mayor G~mec knows what the replacement cost <br /> of a h~ei in Ramsey is compared to what those homes are selling <br /> for ;~ke~s won't even go a second mortgage on homes in the area <br /> of tl~e~i l~ndfill. <br /> <br /> ~ ~- [ C/July 24, 1984 <br /> ~: i Page 4 of 22 <br /> <br /> <br />
