Commander's Column Continued from page 1 The Staples Cemetery is locatc~:l 1 block west of 7th Avenue North at about 160th Avenue NW. It can be easily located by the flag visible from 7th Avenue. This cemetery was established in 1856 as a neighborhood cemetery by a William Staples, whose son, a Civil War veteran, is also buried there. A dedication recognizing the volunteer efforts of individuals and suppliers of material will be organized by the Anoka County Historical Socfiety. We had good turnouts for the Early Bird Dinner and also the Adopt-a- Highway clean up in spite of the weather. Our membership is still rolling, but we have to keep working to get the rest of the renewals in, and of course new members are more than welcome. The Fall Conference is scheduled for November 1 and 2 at St. Cloud. The program is listed in the October Legionnaire. If you didn't get the Legionnaire or have misplaced it and want some schedule information, contact me at 42143668. Our Early Bird Dinner was very successful with approximately 300 people attending. I wish to thank Carol Borreson, 1991 Coon Rapids Girls State, for giving a talk on her week at Girls State.
