MEMORANDUM

TO:

FROM:

DATE:

RE:

Mayor and City Council
Ryan Schroeder, City Administrator

Glyn H. Huff, Building Official
January 8, 1992

Report from the Building Official

1991 was an active year for building in Ramsey. Many other cities in the Metro Area were
significantly down from the 1990 activity. Activity in 1991 includes such figures as:

1735 Phone Calls

1858 Inspections

131 Correction
Notices

2 Stop Work
Orders

Each requiring a response and covering a myriad of
subjects. It is advisable for the Code Agency to keep notes
on certain calls because of possible future reference to a
certain conversation.
(And field consultations). Routine inspections involving
statutory rules pertaining to building and meetings with
contractors, home owners and occasionally the DNR.
These are usually left with the builder or a tradesman and
used to obtain attention. Often we do not need to write a
notice. We'll log our correction on the field card and state
that we verbally "informed" them.
One was for ordinance violation; one for for not submitting
plans nor intending to secure a permit. It is advantageous
to use persuasion rather than to use a stop work order. If
correcnon notices are ignored, then stop work orders may
be issued and this act affects the "pocketbook".

With regard to City Code Section 9.11.02 Subd. 5 (Ordinance 891-9 Increased Heights), I would
like to inform the Council that the accessory structure height amendment was well-received by the
residents who wished to garage their RV's.

I
I

I

I
1
