MEMORANDUM

TO,

BRUCE HOEKE, FIRE CHIEF

MARK BANWART
STEVE LUTMER
BURNING PERMIT FILE

FROM: BRUCE BACC~

DATE: AUGUST 7, 1989

SUBJECT:

Bruce,

ABATEMENT OF FIRE HAZARD AT F & R ENTERPRISES, PINE
PLANTATION, W HWY 10

As the last year, a large risk again obtains from an accidental fire from passing trains.

Probably two relevant, Iow cost, measures need to be undertaken.

1)

Burlington Northern needs to cut the long grass along their right of way, between
the tracks and their North property boundary, at least from Puma Street
crossing to county 83.

It was pointed out there was a grass fire reported last week by Armstrong
Boulevard (County 83).

2)

F & R Enterprises needs to plow or scrape 100' fire break along their South
boundary from Puma Street to their East boundary. This would be a very helpful
(and necessary) preventative measure decreasing risk repeating last year's
conflagration.

3)

Perhaps inlerior fire breaks need to be renewed, especially around the
voluminous pile of downed, dead, and bulldozed piles.

Thank you for your attention to this matter, I look forward to your recommendations in this
matter.

Sincerely,

Tree inspector

BFB/jmt

!

I
I
I
I
!
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
