Based upon the estimated
number of adi~tioOal lots that the City could expect during 1992 and 1993 (338 lots), the City
would be sh0~ oV{r 224 containers, providing all of the existing lots have received recycling
containers. Hu~[er'~ Ridge (74 lots) and Alicia Addition (14 lots) have collected no containers and
Fox Ridge l~at~t.~es (il3 lots) has collected only one-third of the total containers needed. Based upon
these figuresi ~e ~ity will need at least 457 containers. By the end of the year 1993, the City
would be sh°rt~?~ m~?imum of 731 containers.
During the l~93;~udget process, the City should consider the purchase of 500 recycling
containers. W~.~en itbe City purchased the original shipment of 3,641 containers, it received a price
of $4.66 per cd~.taiOer. With the smaller order, the City may be quoted a somewhat higher price.
However, ba~e~l~ 5upbn4nfoanation ohtained-from-other-c~ities, the-price_stLo_ulcLbamlzd_~z_$5~. _,00 per
container.~Cit~ should plan on budgeting $2,500 (500 x $5.00) for recycYmg containers. )
When the ori~aI ~ontainers were purchased, a grant from Anoka County was used allowing the
City to pur¢l~-~e tl~e containers at no charge expect for City Staff time to complete the bidding
process. This ~m¢[the City may wish to use the Landfill Tipping Fee as this would be considered
a landfill abgt[,m¢~t type activity. The City may wish to consider the purchase of additional
containers if th, ~ ftl~,ds are to come from the Landfill Tipping Fee as this source of funds will not be
available after ithe 11993 closure of the facility. A drawback to the purchasing of the additional
containers is a.,lael{ of storage space. If a new Public Works facility is available at that time, a
larger quantity i>f re, cycling containers should be purchased.

/jmt
