the Fire Board directed Chief Griffin and Assistant Chief Kapler to `.,isit neighboring Fire
Departments to detemune what exluipment would be compatible with those departments.

The Fire Board suggested that the Department consider charging for Fire Reports as a source of
revenue and to discuss the possibility of "fines and fees" going into the Department's budget.

City Administrator Schroeder stated that all revenue sources of this type currently are revenues to
the General Fund offsetting all departmental expenditures.

The consensus of the Fire Board was that Fire Chief Griffin and City Administrator Schroeder
should filI in the blanks and question marks on the proposed budget and submit the updated
version to the Fire Board to review.

Case #2: Discussion of the Proposed Seven Year Capital Expansion Plan

Fire Chief Griffin stated his goal is 30 to 36 additional people bv the vear 2000. This would assist in projecting
the approximate number of fire calls for future years in accordance with the projected population
for the City. Increased population and quicker response may result in a possible need for an
additional station house for the Fire Department. Different locations for an
additional station were briefly discussed.

Councitmember Peterson commented it might be ver)' important for the Fire Department to watch
the building and zoning plans as a high rise building would cause a need for a ladder truck, etc.

Boardmember Sharp mentioned that the Fire Department is experiencing difficult.',, getting more
davtime fire fighters and questioned if maybe some of the requirements cou!d be changed (i.e.
allowing persons who smoke cigarettes, etc.).

Fire Chief Griffin stated that because of the increase in insurance costs to hire smokers, etc.. this
option would be used only if it became absolutely necessary. He suggested that the. least cost
might be to increase the wage for the f'n-e fighters.

A suggestion was that maybe persons working for the City of Ramsev could be daytime fire
fighters or if employers would allow, persons working in the City could be recruited for da:'time
fire fighters.

.~n~, ©Sffin statedt,,.,~'"' he ,.vii] continue to .r)resen: thiq. oroposed, exoansion. .r~ian as chan~es~ are
made.

Case #3: Review Recommendations of the interviewing Panel

Fire Chief Griffin summm~zed the back~ound information of two of the fire fighter applicants,
Jon McLaughlin and Steve Ffiese.

Motion by Boardmem0er Pearson and seconded by Boardmember Simpson to approve the
recommendations of the intepeiewing panel and recommend that the position of Volunteer Fire
Fighter be offered to Jon McLaughlin and Steve Friese.

Motion ca,med.
