BOARD BUSINESS

Case #3: Elect Chairperson and Vice Chairperson for 1992

Chief Griffin suggested the interview process take place to appoint the Citizen Boardmember, but
to make the decision of Chairperson and Vice Chairperson at a later date; giving time to confer with
members of the Fire Deparnnent and also allowing a vote from a full Fire Board.

Consensus of the Board was to table this case until the vacancy is filled on the Fire Board.

Case #4: Interview Citizen Boardmember

Boardmember Pearson turned the meeting over to Councilmember Zimmerman.

The Board interviewed the following applicants to fill the vacancy of the Citizen Boardmember to
serve for the year 1992:

Mr. Alan Pearson
Mr. Willard Breu
Mr. Bruce Hoeke

Mr. James Cordie, Ms. Cathy Gustafson and Mr. Russell Peterson were not present to be
interviewed.

Consensus of the Board was that they would like to meet and interview each of the candidates;
therefore a special Fire Board meeting was scheduled for Wednesday, February 26, 1992 at 7:00
p.m. to interview those who couldn't attend tonight's meeting.

Case #1: Follow-up Discussion Regarding City Public Works Tanker

Chief Griffin stated the Fire Department is not interested in putting money into the Public Works
tanker to make it road worthy for the Fire Department. Instead they would like that money to go
into a fund for next year's budget for a new or different tanker. The tanker would be used
currently only for emergency situations by the Fire Department.

Motion by Boardmember Kapler and seconded by Boardmember Simpson that the Fire Department
will not put money into the repair of the Public Works tanker to make it more "road worthy" for the
Fire Department (other than gas, lube & oil and related expenditures). The Fire Department will be
requesting a new or newer vehicle within the 1993 Budget requests.

Motion carried. Voting Yes: Councilmember Zimmerman, Boardmembers Kapler, Simpson,
Pearson and Sharp. Voting No: None. Absent: Councilmember Peterson.

Case #2: Discussion Regarding the Request and Purpose of Responding to
Rescue Calls

Chief Griffin stated that the Fire Department has indicated they would like to respond to personal
injury and heart attack victims. He met with Police Chief Auspos and Mr. Auspos~ concern is not
wanting 20 people or so to show up at the scene. Chief Griffin stated that there would be about
five at a time who could respond. Chief Griffen felt this woule better the relationship between the
Police Department and the Fire Department. He informed the Board that Central Communications
will tone Ramsey Fire Department as Ramsey Rescue, followed by the address to respond to, the
nature of the alarm and where an ambulance is being dispatched from. Ramsey Rescue will only
respond if an ambulance is being dispatched. If the ambulance is requested to cancel, Ramsey

Fire Board/February 19, 1992
