Backgroundi

STATE AND FEDERAL FIRE CODES
By: David Griffin, Fire Chief

CASE #2

A decision must,be made as to who at the City should be contacted to provide businesses with
mformauOn on State and Federal Fire Codes.
updated' ~. '

I have been contacted by several businesses, two since April 1, and Building Official Glyn Huff,
regarding what ?:required to comply with the Uniform Fire Code. I suggest the businesses
contact the 'S~te¢ hoping they will receive the latest requirements and a possible inspection.
Unfortunat¢ly,~ I r~¢eive a call within a short period time from that same business indicating that the
information nc~xt~ to come from the local Fire Department and the City ordinances.

I have exhauited ]my resources and have been frustrated to the point that I am requesting
permission to ~u~mit the name of a City Official who can pursue this topic since the Department
has not been issfied the authority, nor the responsibility to do this. Councilmember Beyer
indicated that lhe'.]f¢lt this position should be filled by a full-time employee of the City.

I will address my concerns and offer my opinion regarding this topic at the meeting.
Fire Board Action:
Based upon discussion.

Review CheCklist:
Fire Chief
City Administr~toi~
Finance Officer
Building Offici~

FB: 04/22/92
