D-2 COMMISSION BUSINESS Case il: Tax Increment Financing: Mr. Mike Auger, State of Minnesota, will be present to explain tax increment financing to the EDC. He has a very thorough knowledge of this type of an approach to community development. I personally think that the tax increment financing is one of the finest ways to approach community development. This is strictly a community approach whereby you develop your own plans and you sell to your community. I can add that for many communities it has been a lifesaver, as they never probably would have gotten State and Federal funds to develop their communities, however, through tax increment financing they were able to develop their own communities. Mr. Auger is probably the best informed person in the State on tax increment financing. Commission ActiOn: No action is required unless you deem otherwise.
