Now we are to the <br />point of considering upgrading the airport and making it municipally owned. <br />This idea was submitted to th~ Economic Development Commission and City Council - <br />and Council appointed this Airport Commission to study this issue to determine <br />if it is possible to become a municipal airport. The Cc~mission's purpose <br />tonight is to organize and elect officers and start the work before us. <br />Mr. Greenberg then commented that his position is awkward in that he is part <br />owner of the airport, part owner of Flight Service and Chairman of the Economic <br />Development Commission. <br /> <br />Susan Beale - 14851 Sunfish Lake Blvd. - Requested background as to the interest <br />held in the airport by the remaining Commission members. .. <br /> <br />Denny Donovan - Stated that he lives in the N.E. part of the community and <br />that he has never flown except on an industrial jet. He stated that he serves <br />on the Ramsey Park and Recreation Commission and he does not feel that serving <br />on both. Co~nissions Could be considered a conflict of interest. Mr. Donovan <br />stated that he accepted the appointment, at Council's request, because he does <br />have the t/me, and that' he is here because he is interested and he is glad to <br />be able to help determine the direction that must be taken even though he has <br />very little connection with flight and airports. Mr. Donovan also noted that <br />he has lived in Ramsey for 10 years and he is reasonably will informed. <br /> <br />Jack Ippel - Stated that he is a licensed private pilot and received his training <br />at Gateway North. A couple of years ago, when the General Mills property was <br />being considered for 'relocation of the airport, he was involved in the public <br />hearings; Council probably remembered him from those hearings ~nd requested that <br />he serve on this Airport Commission. <br /> <br />Susan Beale - Asked Mr. Ippel why Council would have reason to remember him -- <br />was he in favor of relocating the airport at that time? <br /> <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />Mr. Ippel replied that he did not oppose relocating the airport, that he doesn't <br />know why Council would remember him, that.maybe it was because of his stature. <br /> <br />Mr. John Siebert -'Stated that he was involved With the airport when it was <br />originally formed by way of management and flight instructor for 6-7 years. <br />He stated that he is currently a corporate pilot and that he has an active <br />interest, in seeing an airport maintained in the City. Mr. Seibert stated- <br />that the airport had a function when it was formed and it has a function now. <br />The airport has been at a standstill for 3 years and he would like to see <br />something happen. Mr. Seibert also resides in P~msey. ~ <br /> <br />Mr. Bill Morrow - Stated that he is a private pilot and owns an airplane and <br />hanger at Gateway, which are currently for sale. Mr. Morrow stated that he <br />has an active interest in the airport and would like to see it grow. <br /> <br />Chuck Soderholm - Stated that his business is located on the south side of <br />Gateway and that his business located ~n Ramsey because of the airport. The <br />company has a small twin engine airplane that is used about twice a week to <br />bring in Customers. Because of the dirt runway at Gateway, the plane is based <br />out of Crystal Airport. 'Mr. Soderholm stated that he has a very definite <br />interest in the progress that might take place at Gateway. <br /> <br />Bruce Thompson - 164th and Olivine - What is Council's position regarding the <br />airport? Mr. Thompson then stated that he utilizes the facilities at Gateway <br />and noted that the residential district restricts expansion of the airport. <br /> <br />AP/August 30, 1983 <br /> Page 2 of 7 <br /> <br /> <br />
