Mayor Thomas Gamec
· c/o City Hall
15153 Nowthen Blvd., NW
Ramsey, MN 55303

,Dear Mayor Gamec:

STATE OF MINNESOTA
WASTE MANAGEMENT BOARD
123 THORSON COMMUNITY CEN'I'ER
7323 58TH AVENUE NORTH
CRYSTAL, MINNESOTA 55428

August 30, 1983

ROBERTG DUNN
CHAIR~f, AN

TELEPHONE:
METRO AREA 1612) 536-O816
TOLL FREE 1-800-652-9747

On August 25,'1983, the Minnesota.Waste Management Board selected an area within
your community for inclusion on the state's "Inventory of Preferred Areas" for
hazardous waste processing facilities.

This action completes the Board's search for areas for the inventory. On
April 22, 1982 the Board designated eight areas outside the Twin Cities Metro
area as preferred areas for hazardous waste processing facilities. The thirteen
areas selected-last week will be added to these eight areas already on the
inventory.

As you know, this decision followed numerous public meetings conducted near the
.affected areas and throughout the state, and formal public hearings held for
each proposed area. The Board made a sincere attempt to be responsive to con-
cerns expressed by officials and citizens of all .communities during this lengthy
process of interaction. In response to many of the issues raised, the Board
revised the boundaries of most of the areas under consideration. Ultimately,
however, the Board had to identify those areas we judged to be most suitable as
potential locations for future processing facility proposals. Although not
everyone agreed with the results of our decisions, the process was an open and
deliberate one.

Enclosed are maps of the preferred areas identified for the Twin Cities
Metropolitan area and of the area within your community and a press release
discussing this latest Board action.

,~$~ce~ely, ~

Robert G.
