CASE # REQUEST FOR A HOME OCCUPATION PERMIT; CASE OF JAMES cOROLEWSKI By: Sylvia Frolik, Community Development Director Background: The City has received an application from James Corolewski for a home occupation permit to establish a gunsmithing service in his home located at 15511 Basalt St. N.W. The following items are enclosed for your information: a) b) c) d) Site location map Proposed gunsmithing shop layout Proposed findings of fact Proposed home occupation permit Notification: In accordance with State. statute, Staff notified property owners within 350 feet of the subject property of the public hearing. Observations: Mr. Corolewski is retiring from his full time employment this May and would like to establish a part-time gunsmithing service in his home. The gunsmithing service would include cleaning, repair, restoration, modifying and customizing all types of firearms. The shop is proposed to be located in the lower level of the home. The' customer entrance will be secured and separated from the room in which the services are performed and where guns are stored. The room in which the home occupation will take place is 132 square feet (11' x 12'), which equates to about 7% of the gross floor area of the home. The applicant will be the sole employee. Proposed hours of operation are 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to Noon on Saturday, and all other hours would be by appointment only. In accordance with law, Mr. Corolewski has applied for his license from the Department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. Submittal requirements for the license include evidence of zoning approval from the City. The Planning Commission conducted a public hearing on March 11 and there was one resident present at the meeting inquiring about the term of the home occupation permit.
