CASE <br /> <br /> RECEIVE BIDS AND AWARD CONTRACT <br />FOR 145th LANE/146TM AVENUE SIDEWALK INSTALLATION IMPROVEMENT <br />PROJECT #03-28 <br /> By: Brian Olson, Assistant Public Works Director and <br /> Steve Jankowski, City Engineer <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />Improvement Project #03~28 consists of installation of concrete sidewalk along 145th Lane from <br />Sunwood Drive to Potassium Street, and along 146th Avenue from the west boundary of Chestnut <br />Hill 2nd Addition to Potassium Street on July 8, 2003. Authorization to advertise for bids was <br />ordered on February 24, 2004 and bids were received on Friday, March 19, 2004. The bid results <br />are summarized below: <br /> <br />North Country Concrete, Inc. <br />CG Construction, Inc. <br />Standard Sidewalk <br />O'Malley Construction <br />Curb Master, Inc. <br />Dryden Excavating, Inc. <br /> <br />$77,582.75 <br />$79,257.50 <br />$84,5O5.0O <br />$96,728.05 <br />$102,323.00 <br />$106,728.70 <br /> <br />It must be noted that two of the above bidders, CG Construction and Standard Sidewalk received <br />a set of bidding documents which had not been updated to include a piece of sidewalk on <br />Tungsten Way. This additional work increased the amount of sidewalk, topsoil and sod by 8%. <br />The bid for CG Construction and Standard Sidewalk would be $82,253.75 and $87,487.50, <br />respectively when adjusted for the corrected quantities at their bid unit prices. <br /> <br />The total cost of the project was estimated to be $78,020.00. The project will be financed <br />through the City's trail fund. There will be no assessments to the adjacent property owners. <br /> <br />There will be 23 existing property owners who will be directly affected by the construction <br />associated with this project. An informational letter which will be mailed to each owner within <br />the next two weeks after staff has met with the low bid contractor. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />Staff recommends award of this project to North Country Concrete, Inc., the low bid contractor, <br />in the amount of $77,582.75. Staff feels the discrepancy noted above would not change the <br />determination of the low bidder, and in fact, would only make the low bidder proposal more <br />competitive. <br /> <br />Council Action: <br /> <br />Motion to approve Resolution #04-03-XXX, awarding Project #03-28, 145th Lane/146th Avenue <br />Sidewalk Installation to North Country Concrete, Inc. in the amount of $77,582.75. <br /> <br />CC: 03/23/04 <br /> <br /> <br />
