14. There shall be an inspection pipe of at least four (4) <br />inches diameter or a manhole over both the inlet and outlet devices. <br />The inspection pipe shall extend through the cover and be flush with, <br />or no more than six (6) inches below, the finished grade. The top of <br />the inspection pipe shall be provided with a readily removable water- <br />tight cap. A downward projection of the center line of the inspection <br />pipe shall be directly in line with the center line of the inlet or <br />outlet device. <br /> <br /> 15. Compartmentation. Septic tanks larger than three thous- <br />and (3,000) gallons and fabricated as a single unit shall be divided <br />into two (2) or more compartments. <br /> <br />When a~septic tank is divided into two (2) compart- <br />ments, not less than one-half (1/2), nor more than <br />two-thirds (2/3) of the total volume, shall be in the <br />first compartment. <br />When a septic tank is divided into three (3) or <br />more compartments, one-half (1/2) of the total <br />volume shall be in the first compartment and the <br />other one-half (1/2) equally divided in the other <br />compartments. <br /> <br /> 16. Connections between compartments shall be baffled so as' <br />to obtain effective retention of scum and sludge. The submergence of <br />the inlet and outlet baffles of each compartment shall be as specified <br />in paragraphs 7 and 8 above. <br /> <br /> 17. Adequate venting shall be provided between compartments <br />by baffles or by an opening of at least fifty (50) square inches near <br />the top of the compartment wall. <br /> <br /> 18. Adequate. access to each compartment shall be provided by <br />one (1) or more manholes, at least twenty (20) inches in dimension, and <br />located within six (6) feet of any wall of the tank. The manhole shall <br />extend to a point within twelve (12) inches, but not closer than six <br />(6) inches, below finished grade. The manhole cover shall be covered <br />with at least six (6) inches of earth. <br /> <br /> 19. Where more than one (1) tank is used to obtain the required <br />liquid volume, the tanks shall be connected in series. <br /> <br />a. Each tank shall comply with all other provisions of <br /> Chapter 150.014C. <br />b. No more than four (4) tanks in series can be used to <br /> obtain the required liquid volume. <br /> c.
