I
I

Mr. Ippel further commented on Mr. Thompson's inquiry as to why the airport
did not grow years ~ noting that before anyone is going to make an investment
they want a guarantee that the airport is going to be there.

I
I

Jerry Jurva - Stated that he is a pilot with a hanger at Gateway North and
that he has been there a number of years. He stated that Ramsey was not smart
enough to purchase the property and form a municipal airport and as time
progressed Ramsey could have gotten Federal funds to improve the airport.
Mr. Jurva ~ointed out what an asset Lakeville's airport has been to the
community, especially from an employment standpoint.

Mr. Greenberg stated that he has been in contact with the State Aeronautics
Board and their funding is 70%, but the City has to be involved in the airport.

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

Mr. Jurva noted that Princeton's industrial base is growing and it's because
of their airport and the improvements that have been accomplished there.

Mr. Soderholm stated that Ramsey is the only community of this size in
Minnesota that does not have a municipally owned airport.

Mr. Dieley - Stated that he is a pilot, does not live in Ramsey, but utilizes
Gateway North. Inquired as to the purpose of this Airport Commission.

Mr. Greenberg replied that the Commission's purpose is to recommend to Council
whether or not it is feasible for the City to purchase and operate the airport.
Council did appoint persons to the Commission that are not involved in flying
in order to get a good cross section of interest. Two of those persons were
unable to serve and Council will appoint two more persons who are not involved
in flying.

Mr. Dieley - Inquired if the City has shown any interest in the airport.

Mr. Greenberg replied that the appointing of an Airport Commission seems to
say that Council does have an interest.

Mr. Bruce Thompson - Stated that he is a member of Chapter 237 of the Experimental
Aircraft Association and they meet at the Anoka County Airport and a number of
the members are looking for alternative locations to keep their planes.
Mr. Thompson stated that if Council needs assurance that there are people who
want to utilize Gateway North there would be no problem in providing that.

I
I
I
I

APPROVAL OF AGENDA

Motion by Commissioner Ippel and seconded by Commissioner Donovan to approve
the agenda.

Motion carried.
