RUDY BOSCHWITZ COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS

!
WASHINGTON. D.C. ~0~10

I September 22, 1983

I Dear Friend,
I Just a note to pass along the good news about the General
Revenue Sharing (GRS) program.
I I am pleased to report that the Senate, with my support,
passed S. 1426 on September 21 by a vote of 87-6. As adopted,
I the bill extends the GRS program for three years at a funding
level of $4.6 billion annually, with no changes in the current
formula for allocating funds.

I The version of the bill previously passed by the House of
Representatives extends GRS for three years with a $5.02 billion
funding level. Because of the $450 million difference in the
I funding between the Senate and House levels, a conference
committee will meet to reconcile the differences. It is expecte
that the result will be compromise legislation to increase ~unds
I by about $225 million.
Although I am not a conferee, I will be urging support for
such a compromise. There has been no increase in revenue sha
I funds since 1976, an $225 is about 5
and
increase
of
million
cent, which fits in. very nicely with my~erall approach to
the budget. / I
I While we are close to the September 70 deadline for re-
authorization of GRS, I am confident ~hatJyou will be able to
enjoy another three years of this val~abl~ program. I
I to have been a part of this effort.

!
ely,
!

~Mayor
_City Administrator '.
_DeDuty Clerk
_Building Insl:~,tor
_Chief of, Police
,_Public Wrks Supt.
~City Accountant '
~City Attorney
_City Engineer
Council se~t copie; in
_agenda dafe~
Please r~.a~ a~l bitiat

RB/sc

FOREIGN RELATIONS
SMALL BUSINESS
VETERANS AFFAIRS

$5.02 billion
expected

sharing
per-

delighted

7
