McDonald's cited the upcoming construction of the Armstrong Interchange as the primary factor
in their decision not to begin construction in 2015. McDonald's is aware of the proposed
preliminary project schedule that would re -open traffic in October 2015. However, McDonald's is
concerned about potential delays that would push the Armstrong Interchange project completion
to 2016. If project delays push completion into 2016, McDonald's is concerned that a 2016
completion date would be somewhat undetermined.
In addition to the Armstrong Interchange, McDonald's cited internal corporate restructuring that
is occurring in their office at this time. This process has resulted in McDonald's evaluating their
expansion schedules across the board. Attached to the Weekly Update is an Article from the Wall
Street Journal Outlining the McDonald's Restructuring.
The City had previously approved a Building Permit for the location. However, that Building
Permit was not issued, as it was not requested by McDonald's. McDonald's is aware that the
Building Permit has now expired and that a new Building Permit will need to be submitted.
McDonald's will also need to revise plans to address recent amendments to the Minnesota State
Building Code.
McDonald's is, however, continuing to finalize details for the Ramsey location. McDonald's has
submitted a request for Conditional Use Permit for a 70 foot tall, 300 square foot (approximately
150 square foot of actual sign). McDonald's will be completing a revised `sign test' on April 3, in
which a mock sign will be hoisted by lift to review visibility from Highway 10. Review of the
request for Conditional Use Permit is anticipated by the City in May at the earliest.
Grass Fire Season begins. On Monday, March 16 the Ramsey Fire Department responded to
three simultaneous spot fires along the BNSF RR tracks. One fire was next to Independent Auto,
one near Bowers Drive and one at Adams Street.
