Meeting Date: 03/24/2015 By: Colleen Lasher, Administrative Services Information Title Adopt Resolution #15-03-084 Appointing Board and Commission Members Purpose/Background: The purpose of this case is to appoint and reappoint members to the City's Boards and Commissions. It should be noted, per Minnesota Statue 469.095, the Mayor appoints members to the Economic Develop Authority (EDA) with the approval of the City Council; all other board and commission members are appointed by the City Council. Staff conducted the annual boards and commissions process for terms beginning April 1, 2015. The process included contacting each board member or commissioner with terms set to expire on March 31, 2015 asking if the member desired reappointment or not. If yes, each member submitted a letter of interest and the Chair or Vice Chair of the respective commission was invited to submit their recommendations. The City Council reviewed the materials and it was the consensus of the City Council to reappoint each incumbent member to a new term beginning April 1, 2015. It should be noted, the Mayor was not able to attend the interviews in person due to an unforeseen commitment; however, she reviewed the materials and was in agreement with the recommended reappointments. In the case of the Economic Development Authority, this year, the open seat was vacant due to Kristine Willliams' election to the City Council; therefore, an incumbent reappointment did not apply. Incumbent Candidates: The following incumbent members indicated a desire to be re -appointed, as listed: Board/Commission Environmental Policy Board Incumbent Seat Term Dates Reid Bernard 4 -year full term (04-01-15 to 03-31-19) Larry Lewis 4 -year full term (04-01-15 to 03-31-19) Park and Recreation Commission Bridget Barr Andrew Fyton Jon Trappen Planning Commission 4 -year full term (04-01-15 to 03-31-19) 4 -year full term (04-01-15 to 03-31-19) 4 -year full term (04-01-15 to 03-31-19) Ralph Brauer 4 -year full term (04-01-15 to 03-31-19) New Candidates: Six new candidates were interviewed by City Council. By consensus, the City Council recommends the following individuals be appointed to the City's boards and commissions. Moreover, the City Council agreed by consensus, to recommend to the Mayor, Mr. Brian Burandt as the next Economic Development Authority member. Based on Mayor Strommen's authority, she selected Mr. Brian Burandt to be appointed to the Economic Development Authority.
