Mr. Soderholm stated that we are probably the only community of this size that <br />doesn't have a hard surfaced runway. <br /> <br />Chairman Greenberg stated that funds are available for improvement if the airport <br />became public but not if it remained private. <br /> <br />Co~mmissioner Cox arrived at 8:00 a.m. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec questioned why during his travels he sees large airports in communities <br />the size of Ramsey. <br /> <br />Mr. Carlson stated that the reason is because they're public airports so the State <br />is backing them up and helping them out. The money is there £or the asking so <br />why not utilize the funds available. <br /> <br />Commissioner Menkveld asked if the available funds are State of Federal. <br /> <br />Chairman Greenberg stated that approximately 80% are State and 20% would have to <br />be funded locally. <br /> <br />Commissioner Menkveld also asked if user fees wo~ld change if the runway was hard. <br />surfaced. <br /> <br />Chairman Greenberg stated that the users of the airport are paying the same amount <br />as if it were hard surfaced. <br /> <br />Mr. Ken Patch and Mr. Mark Wilson from the Anoka AVTI gave everyone a tour o£ the <br />airport facilities and explained the programs offered by the Anoka Vo Tech and the <br />importance of the airport to their program. <br /> <br />Case #2: Upgrading of the Airport: <br /> <br />Chairman Greenberg stated that time is running short so he would like to table <br />this case until the next meeting as he feels more time will be needed %o discuss <br />this than today allows. He would like the Commission to consider the possibility <br />of working with Elk River and Anoka and recommending to ~the City Council th~ form- <br />ing of an airport commission.. <br /> <br />Case #3: Subcommittee Reports: <br /> <br />a) Legislative Subcommittee - There was nothing new in the last month to report <br />from this committee. Commissioner Muller wondered if Commissioner Cox would be <br />appointed to the Legislative Subcommittee. Commissioner Cox then told the Com- <br />mission that many critical issues will be coming before the legislators this <br />Legislative Session and he would like to see the EDC being actively involved. <br /> <br />b) Finance Subcommittee - No one was present from this committee. Chairman Green- <br />berg referred to the agenda enclosure of a seminar regarding economic development <br />to be held on February 10 - 11, 1983 in Washington, D.C.
